Gabriel Sánchez Viveros is an architect from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. To date, he has completed 60 projects between architectural design, interior design and application of art in spaces. He worked for 15 years in Saudi Arabia, where he built and completed architectural and interior design proposals in palaces for various clients including the royal family.

Although he’s an architect by profession, it’s impossible to classify him in a single area since he is creative by nature and that has led him to explore various artistic methods since he was a child. Currently and for some years, he has prioritized the development of his career as a visual artist. His work is manifested in several disciplines such as sculpture, art-object, painting, photography, engraving, among others; but what makes his work so particular is that the artist juxtaposes concepts and materials typical of architecture in his pieces.

In the last 4 years, his artistic work has been shown individually and collectively in Mexico and abroad in more than 30 exhibitions, which include:

The Global Art Competition “United Against CORONA - Express Through Art”, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi, India (2020), Respirando Arte, Virtual Exhibit, FUA, Tabasco, México (2020), The Shade of Silence, U Gallery, Beijing, China (2020), Flora’s Soul, Galería Ixcateopan, Acapulco, Guerrero, México (2020), The Beijing International Art Biennale, National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China (2019), Synergy: From Manila to Acapulco, Zhou B Art Center, Chicago (2019), Flora’s Soul, Galería Oscar Román, Mexico City (2019), Rojo: Historias Sobre Papel Amate, Museo de Culturas Populares, Mexico City (2018), Flora’s Soul, Latin American Art Fair, San Diego, U.S.A. (2018), El Origen, Palacio de la Autonomía, Mexico City (2017), Del Boceto a La Vida, Palacio de la Autonomía, Mexico City (2017), Woven Heritage, A4 Gallery, Dubai, UAE (2017), ROT, Bad Hersfeld-Rotenburg, Germany (2017), Entre Líneas, Galería Ixcateopan, Acapulco, Mexico (2017), Islamic Art Revival Series, Dallas, Texas (2015 and 2014), Undress & Not, Barebrush in New York (2014).

So far in 2020, Gabriel Sánchez Viveros has had exhibitions as relevant as Vivamos la Muerte Como Sólo México lo Sabe Hacer in Madrid, Spain, Octubre Rosa in Mexico City, the virtual exhibition Respiro Luego Existo alongside renown artists, among others.

Gabriel Sánchez Viveros is currently working on new projects and continues a long list of exhibitions.

Statement

“I was born a creative. I have developed professionally as a multidisciplinary artist and architect, and my work is directly inspired by the forms of nature and its materials.

I seek to create with what seems coherent to express myself, I have a particular relationship with color and natural pigments as well as with natural papers and raw elements such as ostrich eggshells and amate paper.

There are coincidences in my way of creating, such as the repetition of patterns, the human silhouette, and the organic modification of natural elements.

My training as an architect has allowed me to have spatial control, that is why my exhibitions are designed as a whole which involve the importance of the viewer’s position in front of the artwork and the proportions that the piece has in the space it is mounted. To me, all the elements are meaningful.”
