Nudity as a Costume

The series began in 2006 when the artist lived in the Middle East and to date is a continuous series since self-representation is a central element in his work as well as the exploration of the nude and its meanings. However, in this series there are also vernacular photographs, far from any intention of a photographic construction but completely close to a real and very sincere self-representation.

What is true nudity like? Can we really get undressed in front of others? Who are we in front of the camera? Can we use nudity as a disguise? How vulnerable are we to the naked? These are some of the questions that this series intends to unleash on the viewer.

It is an erotic series because it rethinks the image of a naked male body, it's nostalgic because it shares scenes and environments that give us a look at its own intimacy, it is daring because the self-portrait of the naked body in front of the camera will always be inevitably political, who we are and what we believe will be implicit. We can be sure that we will not get bored with Gabriel Sánchez Viveros’ work; he is a lover of beauty and the simplicity of things, therefore, this is not a series of heavy, dramatic nude, this is a representation of him and he is irreverent.

"Nudity as a costume" is a denial of the fashions that dictate who you are. It is a series that dares to show Gabriel how he sees himself.
